Not A Creature Was Stirring... 10 Natural Ways I Get A Good Night's Sleep
1. I DRINK VALERIAN ROOT TEA
Valerian root helps me manage stress, anxiety and fall asleep fast. The only downfall is the smell. To avoid smelling Valerian root on it’s own, I will drink it in a tea blend that contains other calming herbs. My favourite blend is from David’s tea and is called “organic mother’s little helper.” Valerian isn’t meant to be consumed for long periods of time, but is definitely my go to when I have a lot going on.
2. MY TECHNOLOGY GOES TO BED BEFORE ME
This is something new I’ve added to my bedtime routine. About an hour before I plan to go to bed, I will put my phone, tv & computer away. This gives me an hour of digital detox and helps me quiet my mind.
3. I HAVE AN ANALOG ALARM CLOCK
Having my phone for an alarm made it too easy for me to check notifications when I was laying in bed trying to sleep. This often lead to hours of mindless scrolling. By keeping my phone in a separate room, I also improve my morning routine. Instead of grabbing my phone and laying in bed for an extra 20 mins, I now get up and start my day.
4. I DRINK MAGNESIUM CITRATE POWDER
On nights when my mind is extra busy, I mix a tsp of Natural Calm’s- magnesium citrate powder with warm water about a half hour before bed.This helps my body and brain relax, allowing me to fall asleep and stay asleep until morning. (Side note: I do not take this on the nights I take valerian root.)
5. I (TRY TO) MEDITATE
I am the WORST at meditating. It is a work in progress for me, but I believe in the benefits of it. Currently it’s more of a “quiet time”
6. I TAKE A LOT OF BATHS
Soft music, candles & a warm bath. Is there really any better way to end the day? I like to sprinkle some Beechwood Wildness bath tea or salts for additional benefits. The Himalayan pink salt is another way for the body to absorb magnesium. This helps me soothe sore muscles and ease anxiety/stress.
7. I GET LOST IN A BOOK
I read a lot of books on business, holistic nutrition & personal development, but right before bed I like to unwind & escape the day by reading fiction. 8. I HAVE A SLEEPY TIME AROMATHERAPY BLEND
My favourite blend to diffuse before bed is a combination of sandalwood, chamomile, bergamot, ylang ylang, & lavender.
**Please be cautious around babies and animals and be sure to use high quality, toxin free, essential oils. I make sure the oils I use are pure & cold pressed.
9. MY TRAVELLING MUST HAVE: GENUINE HEALTH SLEEP+ TIME RELEASE CAPSULES
A sleep supplement isn’t something I use on a regular basis. It is a great solution for me when I’m travelling. 10. I PRACTICE YOGA
